Each day, more municipalities are opting for sustainable mobility to meet the air quality standards recommended by health experts. One of the measures to achieve this objective is to reduce the use of combustion vehicles and encourage sustainable, energy-efficient mobility.
Hybrid vehicles are an excellent solution for more responsible and environmentally conscious forms of transportation.

How do PHEVs work?

Plug-in hybrid cars, also known as PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles), operate by combining an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The electric motor is the main source of energy, which allows for a significant reduction in polluting gas emissions and lower fossil fuel dependence.
A plug-in hybrid car has a rechargeable battery that allows it to operate in fully electric mode for a certain distance. The battery usually has a capacity of between 10 and 20 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which allows the car to travel between 40 and 80 kilometres in electric mode, depending on the model and driving conditions.

PHEV motors and energy management

The electric motor drives the car when used in fully electric mode, and provides additional support to the combustion engine when there is a high power demand.
One of the keys to the operation of a hybrid car is its energy management system, which chooses which motor to use at any given moment according to driving needs and battery charge. For example, when starting or driving at low speed, the electric motor is usually in charge of moving the car, whereas the combustion engine is activated when more power is needed or when the battery is low.

Energy recovery in a PHEV

These vehicles have an energy regeneration system known as "braking regeneration" or "energy recovery".
When the PHEV is in motion, the energy generated during deceleration and braking is recovered and used to recharge the battery. This process is achieved by means of a regenerative braking system that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, which is stored in the battery. This increases electric vehicle autonomy and reduces internal combustion engine dependence.

Recharge your PHEV with the Endolla Barcelona network.

Remember that you can use Endolla Barcelona’s charging points to recharge your PHEV. We recommend that you use the normal charging connectors in Aparcaments B:SM as they are better adapted to the charging power allowed for PHEVs.
Get on board with hybrid-electric technology and contribute to a more sustainable future with every kilometre you drive.
