Endolla Barcelona, the city’s electromobility network, closed out 2022 with a notable increase in users and the volume of recharges completed. The network currently has 16,036 users, a rise of 68% compared to a year ago. During the course of 2022, the network recorded more than 100,000 uses, a 60% increase on the previous year. The figures confirm the upward trend for Endolla Barcelona and represent record numbers since the network was created.
The Endolla network recorded a total of 107,344 recharges of electric vehicles. This usage meant a supply of 1,134,000 kWh, some 102% more than in 2021.
In terms of the environment, the network provided enough energy for vehicles to cover over 36 million kilometres. This distance would have generated over 7,400 tonnes of CO2 if the journeys had been made by internal combustion engine vehicles.
Endolla Barcelona to reach 1,000 charging points this year
Endolla Barcelona is set to have 1,000 charging points by the end of 2023. During the course of the year, 300 new points will be added around the city. These come in addition to the 711 points currently in operation. The aim is to continue to support people in the transition towards electric vehicles and make Barcelona a frontrunner in the field of electromobility.
Backing a sustainable and efficient energy transition
The new charging points will be located in B:SM car parks, which already house 7 out of 10 existing points. This rollout strategy ensures that the expansion is implemented evenly in all city neighbourhoods, facilitating the leap to electromobility for people in Barcelona who do not have charging points at home or in their workplace.
Installing the points in car parks also helps minimise the occupancy of public space, reducing other consequences linked to parking and encouraging planned recharges during off-peak hours.
Network growth with innovative projects
Our strategy is one of smart and flexible growth, consistent with the evolution this sector is still to make. To this end, the network is involved in numerous innovation projects as part of public-private partnerships, with goals including progress towards energy savings and the smart management of the charging network.
One of the trials will be conducted at the Porta de Sarrià car park and will test the scheduled charging of electric vehicles at B:SM car parks, making the most of times when the demand for energy is lower. In this case, the trial is part of the eCharge4Drivers programme, a European project co-funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, in which Barcelona is participating through the Endolla Barcelona network.
Endolla Barcelona is the leading public electromobility network in the Spanish state
With 711 charging points, Endolla Barcelona is currently the largest public e-mobility network in the Spanish state. There are currently 7.1 points per km2 distributed evenly around all the city’s neighbourhoods, with one charging point for every 11.4 electric vehicles and an average service availability of 96%. Added to all the other charging points used by the public, these make Barcelona Europe’s second city in the number of charging points per km2, behind Stockholm, and the fourth in number of points per resident, behind Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo.
