To help ensure the transition to electric vehicles, the Spanish government has increased the funds earmarked for sustainable mobility. The MOVES III plan budget reached 1.2 billion, after a further 400 million euros was added to the fund, and it is available until 31 December 2023.

Requirements for getting a grant to buy an electric motorcycle

  • The motorcycle has to be in the L3e, L4e and L5e categories. Two or three-wheel vehicles of more than 50 cc or with a speed greater than 50 km/h and a gross vehicle weight of no more than one tonne.
  • It has to be an authorised electric vehicle, have lithium batteries and power equal to or greater than 3 kW, and a minimum range of 70 km
  • Only electric motorcycles will be eligible for the subsidy, and their price before tax should be under 10,000 euros

Discover the advantages of riding an electric motorcycle

Electromobility is changing the way we get about. People are increasingly choosing to make journeys using electric vehicles
If the daily journeys we make are within the city, one of the best options is to get an electric motorcycle, which, due to its size and accessibility, is a good means of sustainable transport.

Benefits of riding an electric motorcycle

As with electric cars, electric motorcycles have many benefits both for the user and the environment. Below is a list of some of these benefits:

  • Environmentally friendly: Because they have an electric engine, these motorcycles don’t make any noise and they don’t emit any polluting gases; this helps to create more liveable urban environments.
  • No driving restrictions: Vehicles with the 0 label do not face any restrictions when it comes to driving in low emission zones (LEZ), as they don’t emit any polluting gases. These vehicles can also be used in the high occupancy vehicle lanes [carrils VAO] when they have two occupants.
  • Lower maintenance costs: Because the engine is relatively simple compared to combustion-engine motorcycles, they have fewer maintenance needs. Forget carrying our periodic checks to change the oil and filters
  • Tax exemptions and reductions: As with electric cars, electric motorcycles benefit from reduced vehicle tax (IVTM) and are exempt from paying vehicle registration tax.
  • Better range and lower cost per kilometre: Thanks to technological advances, we can now find electric motorcycles on the market with smaller batteries and a greater vehicle range, sufficient to cover journeys within the city.
